Professional Short Course Training For The Film & TV Industry
The film and and television industry is booming with business doubling, even tripling, as a result of the streaming wars. Oklahoma is one such state that is benefiting from this boom. From Martin Scorsese's "Killers of the Flower Moon" starring Leonardo Dicaprio, which is currently looking for Oklahoma crew members, to "Reagan" starring Dennis Quaid which just wrapped in Guthrie, Oklahoma.
If you have ever dreamed of working in film and television, now is the perfect time to start your journey.
OFTA offers a number of short courses for both those that are new to the industry and those wanting to take the next step in their career. Courses are run over evenings and weekends to give students the ability to work course around their busy work life. Each program is specifically designed to teach the practical skills and knowledge by a faculty made up of Hollywood industry veterans who have worked on some of the biggest movies and won some of the most coveted awards. Nothing we teach is theory.
OFTA students must be over the age of 18 on the first day of class. We accept applicants from all walks of life, experience, and ages. From film school students who are looking to round out their education with in depth practical training so they are ready and able to step onto a Hollywood production set, to carpenters, electricians, bookkeepers, and those leaving military service who are looking for their next career move. All our classes are held over evenings and weekends so that you can get the training you need while still working your current job.
Our "Set Ready" course is held over 2 full weekends or 4 weekdays and delivers a base level understanding of the skills and knowledge needed to work on a film and television production. We'll get you set up with radio etiquette, kit box requirements for various roles, how to fill in various studio paperwork, and a whole lot more.
(Set Ready is a required course for all other steps)
Our online film Crew 101 Certification is our lowest price course at $97. Our in-person multiday courses range from $1,200 to $2,480.
All students must start with "Set Ready" unless suitable film credits establish the ability to bypass our entry course. If you are unsure if your film credits are suitable please apply to Set Ready and our admissions team will discuss options during your phone interview.
Federally supported student loans are not available for OFTA students. Those currently serving in the military, and eligible veterans, may qualify for federal support via the Montgomery GI Bill Active Duty (MGIB-AD).
We welcome students from around the world. During your admissions interview, please let the OFTA crew member know that you are from out of town and we can recommend housing options or team you with others that are looking for somewhere to rent with other students.
Please see the detailed information for each class to see each class time. Generally, classes take place from Monday-Thursday, or over the weekend.
All OFTA classes are for training people to directly enter the industry working on projects that are currently looking for crew. Above-The-Live positions and Heads of Department generally work up the ladder gaining experience to take these positions.
If you are interested in getting a general filmmaker education, there are many good schools that offer courses. In Oklahoma, these include:
Oklahoma City Community College
Moore Norman Technology Center
We do not directly place students in paid positions on productions. However, we will give you all the information you need and introduce you to the right people so that you can set yourself up for success.
Additionally, classes are held at a working film studio and our teachers are active industry professionals so there is every opportunity to form relationships while you are on campus that can lead to employment.
